Gnome (Basic) has the Lowest Foot Print

Gnome dedktop tskes little over 5GB on      /root partition but I give minimum of 25GB when installing so that I have leeway whem installing additional applications. However, it takes (not timed) a lomg time to install. Why I do not know why but most likely configurations takes extra time and its PYTHON installer is as long as the Anaconda of Redhat. It is file by file installation and file by file configuration. Files are abour 1500 with fallback or flashback Gnome.l This is about Debin Forky. I am goimg to count the Trixie GNOME in a little while. It is 6GB one GB higer than Forky. This is because of l its well organized file system and libraries. Even CachyOS takes about  7GB. Endeavor OS is about, 6GB. Reborn OS takes bit above CachyOS. BlueStar which is KDE takes the most but it is packed with utilities.  KDE distribution is heavy by default.  SuSe Linux and Redhat padded with commercial utilities consume the most GB capacity. They do not fit in in a 4...

My Cellphonrs

I have a collection of phones from year, 2009. I have a habit of donating cellphones to poor guys. My first android phone was GreenTel. It has a good camera. It works well even to this day. My first tab was a Linux Suse, I bought it in Ceylon. That was the first tab that to breakdown and it won't on its power. I believe Microsoft's bug did the damage. Later I bought a Lenova tab in Singapore and it is still working well with update of its system version. I go to Singapore when I want to do shopping, including cellphones. I bought a cellphone for less than Rs.3000/= and  I updated it yesterday. It's RAM is limited but still works well on Google's Android. The expensive cellphone I bought for my better half with sealed battery is defunct now. I bought a few ZiGo phones and one is still working and the other had a big defective line in its liguid crystal and I gave it away to a guy. He couldould not buy a replacement battery for it. The second GreenTel I boug...

Anyline Typewriter and Scanner

Anyline typewriter application is basically a scanner. It does type simply. It is currently with limited typewriting capability that does not interfere with one's typing habits. All the other android typewriter utilities are great when one is just posting a quick note to a friend. I do not want to give up my ability to remember spellings, especially in French. When writing any interference is a hindrance. This piece was done by Anyline. Its keyboard is not clumsy and there is no clutter. That does not mean I do not use others. I like Grammerly. I have changed from Microsoft SwiftKey for the time being. The Coronavirus incarceration was a blessing in disguise. I have tried many others including floating notes which I love.

Digital Domain

Digital Domain Cell phone has become a dominant feature in our lives. With it the technology is moving fast. It is increasingly becoming difficult for senior citizens to keep pace. Additionally there are many new utilities to cope with. The memory impairment is another disability that come with old age, in addition to vision and hearing. Thankfully my major handicap was losing memory. I believe it was related to alcohol and I gave it up completely. I did not stop at that but started developing habits to improve memory. Cell phone was very useful in this regard and I knew (never used one) very little about them. I generally like hacking computers and used that inclination to see the working of cell phones. Instead of going for an expensive one, I invested on a cheap one and got the hang of the touch screen, internals like battery and SIM. Then I gave it to the domestic aid and went for little higher one with TV facility. At that stage, I realized, it is a tiny computer. I h...

Value, Design and Future Perspective

Value, Design and Future Perspective Our current value will decide the basis of our intended design of the future. If we go on, without an objective, we would end up, in a blind alley. This is so in economics, politics and even worse, social realms. It is pretty obvious in Ceylon and US we are heading for the cliff edge. Sometimes, I think we are going backward, politically. Simply because we do not have potent democratic values and a correct political design of flexibility. We are groping in the dark. The movement is generally, unidirectional and never multidimensional and that is also only towards the future. We were not ready for the current predicament suddenly exposed by the Coronavirus. I have no inclination on probing the biological, economic and social arenas. There are lot of guys already driving their efforts on those fields. Dr. Fauci, is trapped in medicine, including immunology. I need to say few words about him here, for posterity. His dress is smart. His sporting hat...
